Natural Black Quartzite Hammered Silver Ring.
Please note: This ring is ‘made to order’ and will be handmade and ready for despatch within 2-3 weeks of purchase. It is shown as ‘in stock’, so that the purchase/order can be made.
This is a natural stone, silversmithed ring handmade in black and white British quartzite. I have collected this stone by hand in the lovely Northumbria region of England, in the United Kingdom.
I make this large ring in hand-forged sterling silver and a cabochon of natural black quartzite striped with quartz veins, which I handcraft into a cabochon. Then I make the bezel surround using silversmithing techniques, following closely the original shape of the stone, which is slightly asymmetrical. The silver ring also has a hammered texture, which gives a slightly aged effect and accentuates the uniqueness and handmade nature of the ring.
The photographs here show an example of this design. As each ring is handmade and unique, the piece may vary in appearance from the one pictured. I aim to colour match as closely as possible.
The quartzite stone is entirely natural and untreated. Set in sterling silver it creates a unique statement ring.
- Quartzite cabochon size: approximately 1 3/8 inch x 11/16 inch (22 mm x 17 mm).
- Ring size: The ring shown is extra large – just over size Z 1/2 (UK/AU), approx. size 13 (US), 72 mm
- I can reduce the ring size slightly – from size T-Z (UK/AU). Please send me a request note when you order.
- The ring is open-ended, so is already slightly adjustable.
Please note: the sterling silver proportion of the ring is just under 7.78 grams (part of the weight is the stone cabochon), so falls within the exemption weight for hallmarking according to the Hallmarking Act 1973. I purchase all of my raw silver materials from established, reputable UK suppliers.
