Natural British Quartz Textured Silver Earrings. White quartz earrings that I have designed and handmade here in the north-east of England. I make these earrings in silver set with natural, untreated white quartz gemstone cabochons, and have collected the stone in Northumbria, England. The earrings have been silver hallmarked at Sheffield, England.
The texture of the earring settings resembles woven hessian, once in widespread use as sackcloth in both rural and urban workplaces by farmers through to coal merchants. Hessian is made in natural fibres, therefore can perhaps symbolise both the natural and the man made, as can the natural quartz stone and silverwork of the earrings. The texture of this piece is emphasised by the brightness of the silver. I make the earring settings by hand hand in ethical fine silver. I set these with tiny, hand-crafted quartz cabochons, and attach sterling silver ear wires.
- Silver earrings size: approx. 3/4 inch x 3/8 inch (18 mm x 10 mm).
- Quartz cabochons size: approx. 3/16 (4 mm) across.
- Drop length approx. 7/8 inches (23 mm) including ear wire bead.
- The ear wires are sterling silver.
The pieces may vary slightly in appearance from those pictured, as they are made individually. I aim to colour match the quartz cabochons as closely as possible.
Please note: the silver proportion of the earrings is under under 7.78 grams (part of the weight is the stone cabochons), so this falls within the exemption weight for hallmarking according to the Hallmarking Act 1973. I purchase all of my raw silver materials from established, reputable UK suppliers.
